Welcome to Joy Pilates
Joy Pilates is run by Amanda Pountney who is qualified with Body Control Pilates - Europe's leading professional body for teachers and is a member of the UK Register of Exercise Professionals.
"I took my first pilates class over 12 years ago when it was a really unknown method of exercise - I was absolutely hooked from day one and vowed to make it part of my life - I went on to study with BCPA and qualified in November 2003. I am qualified to teach all levels of pilates from beginners to advanced and I also qualified last year to teach Reformer Pilates. I continually attend workshops and courses to keep my skills up to date and I am also a supervising teacher for Body Control whereby I help with the training and nuturing of student teachers".
About Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning technique developed by Joseph Pilates more then 100 years ago to overcome his own health problems. The technique has evolved over the years and it has now become an integral part of spinal rehabilitation and management of back pain.
Pilates is precise, controlled and low impact movements that are designed to stretch and tone muscles. The method works the whole body inside and out, focusing on strengthening the core including the abdominal and back muscles. Every exercise is built around 8 basic principles:
- Relaxation
- Co-ordination
- Alignment
- Stamina
- Concentration
- Centring
- Breathing
- Flowing movements
Benefits of Pilates:
- Restores flexibility and joint mobility
- Eliminates bad posture
- Tones slack muscles
- Improves body awareness
- Reduces tension
- Prevents injuries
Pilates is for everyone whether young or old, first time exerciser or professional athlete. Practised regularly and correctly, Pilates will change the way you look and feel.
